In 2020, the iconic sports comedy series Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+. Little did we know that the British actor Brett Goldstein, who played the role of aging footballer Roy Kent, would make his breakthrough in the U.S. The stoic tough guy didn’t have the most airtime on the show, but his incredible performance won him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Goldstein may be a new face among American audiences, but he has a long tenure in the British film and television industry.
This 2023, Brett Goldstein held a string of stand-up comedy performances in San Francisco, which were all sold out. The success of these few trial performances is key for Goldstein to give the green light on his first stand-up tour in the U.S. The Second Best Night of Your Life is anticipated to deliver his British-style humor, don’t expect any Roy Kent impressions, though, because Goldstein is much more laid back than his hilarious character in Ted Lasso. Fans can also look forward to a Q&A, in which he will answer questions from audiences, no matter how ridiculous they may be!
Goldstein launched his career in 2005 when he wrote and starred in his first feature film, Wish You Were Here. The thriller film was remade into Slave four years later. That same year, he made his television debut by starting in ITV’s The Bill, a long-running police drama. Over the years, Goldstein starred in numerous comedy series, such as Drifters, Derek, Uncle, E4, and many more. From 2015 to 2016, Goldstein starred opposite David Hasselhoff in the Goof the Record.
In 2016, Goldstein starred in the comedy film Adult Life Skills. His performance in the film won him a BIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor. After a series of incredible gigs, Goldstein made an outstanding cameo in the popular TV series Doctor Who. Aside from acting, Goldstein is also a fantastic TV and film writer. His writing credits include, For Life, SuperBob, The Nan Movie, Hoff the Record, Catherine Tate’s Nan, and Ted Lasso.
Catch Brett Goldstein as he makes his stand-up debut in Washington D.C. at the DAR Constituion Hall on Thursday, 16th November 2023! Tickets are now up for grabs!
